Support for international students during the COVID-19 pandemic

The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) has published a list of various support systems and programs available to international students in Japan who are facing difficulties due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. This includes cash payments available to anyone who is registered with the Basic Resident Registration System as of April 27, 2020 (International students who receive a Residence Card upon entry into Japan are registered with this system and can apply for the cash payment. Students who reside in Japan for 90 days or less are not eligible).

Scholarships

Akita University of Art Scholarship
This is a grant-type scholarship established by Akita University of Art, awarded to select full-time students based on their grades for the previous academic year. Every year, up to 3 students each from the 2nd and 3rd years, and up to 6 students from the 4th year class are each awarded up to 100,000 yen. In addition, a grant of up to 200,000 yen is awarded to select students who plan to enter the Graduate School of Transdisciplinary Arts.
Akibinet Fund
Akibinet is a collection of over 160 individuals and organizations who support Akita University of Art in various ways, including providing internships to students, promoting AUA in the local community, and organizing events and exhibitions. The Akibinet Fund supports student-led extracurricular art activities by providing up to 200,000 yen for selected art exhibitions, projects, and research activities.
