1 Objective
In 2013, Akita University of Art was established under the 4 fundamental principles of “Creating new art fields and rises to the challenge of doing so”, “Utilizing and expanding the traditions and culture of Akita”, “Nurturing global human resources that will be sent out into the world from Akita” and “Contributing to community development and advancing together with the local community”. The purpose of our international exchange is to realize the fundamental policies above, especially the policy of “Nurturing international human resources capable of connecting Akita to the world”.
In order to create new domains in arts, not being limited by existing framework in arts, it is important to have a broad knowledge of different perspectives and values. However, establishment of one’s standpoint by comparing and positioning of ones values and traditions to the local cultures and traditions of others is equally important. By meeting new cultures and understanding them, and looking at the culture of Japan, consequently cultures of Akita in a new light, one will find the motivational force to the creation of new domains in arts. Hence, international exchange, where foreign cultures meet, is exactly the foundation to such forces of motivation, and is an integral part of the activities for the realization of our principles.
